Engineering Technician Apprenticeship in Oakdale, Wales

Our Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Programme in Wales will give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the fields of General Engineering, working in a laboratory environment, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Hardware and Support as well as gaining a wider understanding of business activities and the projects and programmes General Dynamics UK is involved in.

During your time on the Apprenticeship Programme, you will have the support of experienced training professionals to ensure you achieve your academic potential. You will also have the support and guidance of engineering managers and mentors in the business who will be with you every step of the way.

Acting in partnership with a local training provider, Newport & District Group Training Association (NDGTA), General Dynamics UK has developed a four-year Apprenticeship Programme for Engineering Technicians.

You will work towards NVQ (Level 3) and BTEC HNC qualifications and successful completion will result in you being qualified as an Engineering Technician.

You will gain practical engineering experience, as well as a valuable insight into a working environment, from spending time at the training provider facilities on a combination of block and day release and our General Dynamics UK sites.

Manufacturing and Mechanical Apprenticeships in Merthyr Tydfil

We are offering two Manufacturing Apprenticeship Programmes at our facility in Merthyr Tydfil, starting in September 2017.     The apprenticeships will give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the fields of Manufacturing, Mechanical and Electronics Engineering as well as gaining a wider understanding of business activities and projects that General Dynamics UK is involved with   .  You will have the opportunity to work at our new facility in Merthyr Tydfil, which opens later this year.  

During your time on the Apprenticeship Programme, you will gain exposure to further education and gain understanding of basic engineering and manufacturing principles. You will have continued support from experienced training professionals to ensure you achieve your academic potential.  Support and guidance from engineering managers and mentors in the business will be offered every step of the way.  

Acting in partnership with Merthyr Tydfil College, General Dynamics UK has developed the following Apprenticeship Programmes:

  • Manufacturing Engineering – You will work towards NVQ (Level 3) and BTEC HNC qualifications.  Day and evening release to attend college will be allocated  (Four years in total).
     
  • Mechanical fitter / Craft Apprentice - You will work towards NVQ (Level 2).  Day and evening release to attend college will be allocated (Three years in total).

You will gain practical experience, as well as a valuable insight into a working environment. Our programmes offer the perfect mix of spending time at the training provider facilities and General Dynamics UK.
